The Winnipeg International Writers Festival, McNally Robinson Booksellers and CBC Manitoba Scene are proud to announce the winner of Manitoba Reads is Gabrielle Roy’s Where Nests the Water Hen, defended by Niigon Sinclair. The book that came in a very close second was The Life of Helen Betty Osborne, written by David Alexander Robertson, and defended by Vincent Ho. This book was also voted #1 in the Audience Choice poll. Alison Gillmor went to battle for Reading by Lightning by Joan Thomas. And Paul Jordan …

Good news! The long list of books is up for the brand spankin’ new Manitoba Reads (good one, CBC!). The bad news? They’re all really good books. How are we to choose?
