On the Same Page Nominee Reading
On Wednesday, September 7th from 8-11PM at McNally Robinson Booksellers:
Which Manitoba book, by a Manitoba author, will get Manitobans On the Same Page and be the focus of Manitoba’s biggest book club this year? All four nominees will be on hand this special evening to read from their work.
Jim Blanchard, the author of Winnipeg’s Great War: A City Comes of Age and editor of A Thousand Miles of Prairie, will defend his work Winnipeg 1912, which won a Margaret McWilliams History Book Award (University of Manitoba Press).
David Arnason, author of the nominated book Baldur’s Song (Turnstone Press), is a teacher, editor, critic, and poet. He is the mind behind a plethora of poetry, short stories, drama, criticism, and non-fiction.
Craig Russell was shortlisted for the Eileen McTavish Sykes Award for Best First Book and the McNally Robinson Book for Young People Award – Older Category at the 2011 Manitoba Book Awards. The nominated book he will be reading from this evening, Black Bottle Man (Great Plains Teen Fiction), is also currently nominated for Best English Novel at the 2011 Prix Aurora Awards.
J.R. Léveillé a publié des romans, des essais, de la poésie et est lauréat de plusieurs prix. Il va lire de son oeuvre nominé Le soleil du lac qui se couche (Les Editions du Ble).
J.R. Léveillé has published many books, essays and collections of poetry, many of which have been recognized with awards. He will be reading from his nominated work The Setting Lake Sun (Signature Editions).
This special night just might be the one that turns the tide and is presented in association with On The Same Page, an initiative of The Winnipeg Foundation and Winnipeg Public Library that encourages Manitobans to read the same book at the same time.
