Glorified soldier

Duncan Mercredi/2010

Are you a glorified soldier  are you a glorified soldier

Taking orders from the man

Never trying to understand

Why you hold a gun in your hand

Are you a glorified soldier  are you a glorified soldier

Aiming the gun at your fears

All those lies told thru the years

The bible commands shall not kill

And your heart believes it stll

Are you a glorified soldier  are you a glorified soldier

Believing in a higher god

With power to do it all

Give you eternal bliss

Surrounded by beauty promised by

A man not willing to stand

Before his own kind

Yet willing to sacrifice someone else’s son

Hand him a bomb and a gun

Direct him to kingdom come

Are you a glorified soldier  are you a glorified soldier

Do you dream of peace

Are your visions real

Are they full of hope

Did you cast the first stone

When you looked around

Ready to pull the pin

Did you stand alone

The word of your messiah

No longer seemed so true

Did your hand shake

Before you made the choice

That you had stepped over the line

It was your time

Are you a glorified soldier?

  1. Jocelyn Boileau says:

Powerful words, troubling, thought-provoking, timely. Thank-you.

Duncan Mercredi’s poem brings to my mind this quote:
“God has no religion.” ~ Mahatma Gandhi.

I’m looking forward to the coming Days of Writemas. Brilliant idea.

Blessings to all at The Writers’ Collective,
