A Time for Change at The Writers’ Collective
UPDATE: The Special Meeting of The Writers’ Collective will take place in Room 3M60, University of Winnipeg. Please join us Thursday, June 28 at 7 pm!
The Writers’ Collective has come to the brink of change, and we need our members’ help to take the next step.
For 12 years, we have worked to deliver programs that support, encourage and recognize the work of emerging writers, with the help of our community partners. One of our key partners has been the University of Winnipeg Library, which provided office space since our founding. However, the University is growing, and can no longer provide us with space.
The loss of our office, combined with low attendance at some events over the past year, has convinced us that it is time to reconsider what is unique and essential to The Collective. With that in mind, we have decided to make some organizational and programming changes in the coming year in order to redevelop and relaunch Collective Consciousness, our writing journal.
The new Collective Consciousness will be a professional magazine that inspires, encourages and promotes emerging writers and artists.
As part of our restructuring, we must revise our constitution. According to our by-laws, constitutional amendments must:
- Be approved by a two-thirds majority vote of Writers’ Collective members present at the meeting, and
- Be circulated to members at least ten days prior to the meeting at which the amendment will be presented
You will find the proposed amendments at the bottom of this post.
Special Meeting to Amend the Constitution of The Writers’ Collective
The Special Meeting will be held on June 28, at 7 pm, at the University of Winnipeg (tentatively; location will be confirmed ahead of the meeting). In addition to the vote on amendments, the Board will present its plans for the organization and host an open discussion on the future of the Collective.
Please post your comments, questions or concerns below or, you may forward them to me at hilaryd DOT friesen AT gmail DOT com.
Thank you for supporting the Collective, and I hope to see you on June 28.
